What Are America’s Favorite Seafood?

Unless you’re one of those unfortunate souls who suffer from seafood allergies, very few would refuse a dish of fresh and expertly prepared seafood. On average, Americans eat about 14.5 pounds of seafood per year, but which ones are their top picks? Based on data from the National Marine Fisheries Service, these three species have stayed unbeatable since 2005. Here are the top three most consumed seafood in the US:

3rd place: Salmon
Salmon is viewed as a healthy alternative because it’s loaded with healthy fats and protein. Its versatility makes it delicious prepared a number of ways: roasted, smoked, seared, grilled, baked, broiled, and raw.
2nd Place: Canned Tuna
Coming in at second place, tuna holds a firm spot in the hearts of many Americans. Its ready availability and palate-friendly subtlety makes it a winning choice for diners of all ages.
1st Place: Shrimp
The ubiquitous shrimp bags the top spot as the most consumed seafood in in the United States. These crustaceans are tasty by themselves or as part of dishes such as pizzas, pastas, salads, sandwiches, soups, and even cocktails, making them a landslide favorite for many.
